Publisher Description

From the author of My Oxford Year, Julia Whelan’s uplifting novel tells the story of a former actress turned successful audiobook narrator—who has lost sight of her dreams after a tragic accident—and her journey of self-discovery, love, and acceptance when she agrees to narrate one last romance novel.

For Sewanee Chester, being an audiobook narrator is a long way from her old dreams, but the days of being a star on film sets are long behind her. She’s found success and satisfaction from the inside of a sound booth and it allows her to care for her beloved, ailing grandmother. When she arrives in Las Vegas last-minute for a book convention, Sewanee unexpectedly spends a whirlwind night with a charming stranger.

On her return home, Sewanee discovers one of the world’s most beloved romance novelists wanted her to perform her last book—with Brock McNight, the industry’s hottest, most secretive voice. Sewanee doesn’t buy what romance novels are selling—not after her own dreams were tragically cut short—and she stopped narrating them years ago. But her admiration of the late author, and the opportunity to get her grandmother more help, makes her decision for her.

As Sewanee begins work on the book, resurrecting her old romance pseudonym, she and Brock forge a real connection, hidden behind the comfort of anonymity. Soon, she is dreaming again, but secrets are revealed, and the realities of life come crashing down around her once more.

If she can learn to risk everything for desires she has long buried, she will discover a world of intimacy and acceptance she never believed would be hers.

Slightly Smiling Face“I really did adore this book, but I wish there was a bit more romance. By far my absolute favorite part were the interactions between Sewanee and Brock. While all the other subplots really developed the characters, it sometimes felt like there was a lot going on. Because of this, near the end, it felt a little dragged on.”

Thinking Face“hmm the audiobook was very good i must say :) the characters were three dimensional enough but i was expecting much more romance, i felt like the buildup was sooo long and i struggled a lot with the time jumps tbh”

Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“OOPS I ACCIDENTALLY READ IT IN 2 DAYS?!?! I went into this book absolutely blind. Didn’t know a single thing except that it was chosen as the current read by the booktok QUEEN herself. I laughed, I CRIED, and my heart was beating out of my fucking chest the whole time. Who knew I could enjoy a fantasy that didn’t involve pointy-eared fae hotties? LOVED Blahblah, LOVED Swan, absolutely melted for the witty banter. anddddd now I’m obsessed with the audiobook industry. THANKS JULIA”

Thumbs Up“I didn’t love this as much as I was sure I would. I just wish there wasn’t so much going on outside of the romance. The balance between family, friends and job to romance didn’t make for a well developed MC or romance novel. I didn’t think this was a romance for the first 25%. It was definitely giving women’s fiction, but then things sort of heated up. Finally. And then there wasn’t enough romance at all and felt like just one of the many things going on in Sewanee’s life i.e., women’s fiction.”
