Scythe by Neal Shusterman digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A Time Best YA Book of All Time (2021)

Two teens must learn the “art of killing” in this Printz Honor–winning book, the first in a chilling new series from Neal Shusterman, author of the New York Times bestselling Unwind dystology.

A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Scythe is the first novel of a thrilling new series by National Book Award–winning author Neal Shusterman in which Citra and Rowan learn that a perfect world comes only with a heavy price.

Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!! This book discusses philosophical ideas and questions with very accessible and engaging writing. I love the questions of life, death and morality. Death and immortality have always been topics that I have hyperfixated on, and the themes that are brought up in this book are amazing. The concept of this book is truly its best attribute. It was so engaging and left me thinking so much about us as human beings. For me the two main characters both had very compelling personalities and different backgrounds. I felt empathy for them both throughout their journeys. This book took so many twists and turns that I was starting to get whiplash. Going in I thought the entire book would just be trials between the two in order to become scythes, but there was so much more. I loved the character arcs of them both, but especially Rowan. Even the side characters were likable and memorable. Aghh when Citra saw Faraday was alive after escaping almost made me shed a tear, also her and Rowan's moments were heart wrenching.”

Thumbs Up“3.75⭐️ A very interesting concept, felt flat somewhere around the middle, it did lack a bit of emotion, nevertheless a very interesting read, entertaining and easy to read. Although the ending may satisfy most, it didn’t keep me interested enough to want to keep reading the series (i probably will but still).”
