Publisher Description

In Gilded, #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer returns to the fairytale world with this haunting tale.

Long ago cursed by the god of lies, a poor miller's daughter has developed a talent for spinning stories that are fantastical and spellbinding and entirely untrue.

Or so everyone believes.

When one of Serilda's outlandish tales draws the attention of the sinister Erlking and his undead hunters, she finds herself swept away into a grim world where ghouls and phantoms prowl the earth and hollow-eyed ravens track her every move. The king orders Serilda to complete the impossible task of spinning straw into gold, or be killed for telling falsehoods. In her desperation, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious boy to her aid. He agrees to help her… for a price. Love isn't meant to be part of the bargain.

Soon Serilda realizes that there is more than one secret hidden in the castle walls, including an ancient curse that must be broken if she hopes to end the tyranny of the king and his wild hunt forever.

“4.25 // fr fr i almost dnf’d this around the 30% mark. The beginning was so slow and confusing that reading it became a chore. But in Marissa Meyer we trust, so I continued. Once I hit the 40/50% mark, I started to become genuinely addicted to the story. The pace picked up quite a bit and things were starting to make sense from the world building perspective. I think part of the reason why the suffered was that there was really not a lot of backstory or context for these peculiar characters as the book goes on the main character puts it all together, almost like a mystery. I have to say I think that was my favorite part of this whole book. It was really satisfying to watch her piece it together while we finally understand what’s going on. No joke I went from page 155 to page 500 in one day, which is quite unusual for me. Definitely helped me get through some of the dollar parts in the beginning. Highly recommend giving it a try as the narrator is phenomenal and has done all the other Marissa Meyer books.”
